Ross Barnett Resevoir Fishing Report for 2/25/2010
02/25/10 at 12:37:28

Pelahatchie Bay - 2/25/2010
This area has muddied overnight, leaving about 90 percent of it unfishable for anything other than catfish. That's sad because the prespawn crappie bite had just started showing signs of kicking into gear. Some fish were being caught on cover in ditches, creeks and contour changes leading to shallow areas.

Upper Lake and River - 2/25/2010
ABOVE HIGHWAY 43:

Best area of the lake to fish for bass, due to the backwaters. It is producing some good fish flipping laying logs in areas with a sharp drop from shallow to mid-range depths. Fish want to be shallow, but don't want to give up security of deep water. That puts emphasis on areas requiring a short vertical swim between the two. Crappie fishing is fair in the river deep (15-feet plus).

Main Lake - 2/25/2010
UPPER MAIN LAKE:

Too much wind the last two days to allow much fishing. However, the cold water had already slowed bass fishing. Crappie fishing was fair at best due to the reduced current in the river allowing fish to return to the channel, leaving the Welfare Hole and old lake beds that had been holding decent numbers of fish. Trolling the edge of the river channel produced a decent bite last weekend.

LOWER MAIN LAKE:

Though some reports of crappie getting active in Rose's Bluff area had surfaced late last week, they have died again in the wind and cold this week. And since the north wind has made fishing difficult and will continue to do so this week, this is an area to avoid.
